Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer
This old hymn speaks profound truth to me in the most desperate times. Thanks to my early years in a tiny Baptist church, I learned many hymns by heart. They are all still in my memory, but these lines from “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” resonate most with me.
Isn’t it true that we forfeit peace and bear much pain because we do not simply turn to God in prayer? Prayer is a rescue, an unloading of burdens, a cry for help, and a path to peace in any situation.
