This class is not on a strict schedule. It really depends on the speed at which students create their weapons. I teach it at my co-op that is 10 weeks long with 1-hour class sessions. I’ve taught this class to 4th-6th graders, and it’s somewhat difficult for most of them.
Older students will enjoy this class just as much, and will have more ability and precision, plus they will enjoy the historic research aspect. It’s really flexible!
Supplies:
- Lots of cardboard boxes
- Strong and sturdy scissors (some students like special cardboard scissors). Children’s scissors will not work for this class.
- Duct tape in gray, silver, or gold plus optional wood-grain look or black for handles
- Hot glue and glue guns
- Poster board
- Permanent markers
- Plain copy paper (white and/or colored)
- Metallic spray paint in gray, silver, and gold
- Old sweater
 Classroom needs:
- Tables and chairs with plenty of space
- Trash cans (it gets messy!)
- TV with Bluetooth or HDMI connection
- Internet access or downloaded videos from lessons
In order, here are the weapons and armor we will create:
- Project 1: Basic dagger (or short sword)
- Project 2: Basic long sword
- Project 3: Sheath for one or both of the above
- Project 4: Gauntlet
- Project 5: Axe
- Project 6: Throwing star
- Project 7: Helmet
- Project 8: Armor/shield
