When I sat down to read this book, I couldn’t stop. I finished it in one day.
Raising Boys to Men is the newest book by Durenda Wilson, “a simple, mercifully short book on raising and homeschooling boys.”
When I first had boys, my parenting experience consisted of nine years of raising girls. I grew up with one sister. My mom grew up with one sister. You might say that raising boys was uncharted territory.
Now my boys are 16 and 18. And I can firmly agree with everything Durenda writes in this perfect little book. Boys are the cutest. Boys are aggressive. Boys get loud. Boys need boundaries. Boys are future leaders.
Durenda wrote this book for moms, especially Christian and homeschooling moms, but dads: it’s for you, too! Throughout each chapter, there is wisdom laced with scripture on every topic from sharing with siblings to porn exposure. Every age and every stage is handled with experience and humility.
And it’s short.
If you’re a mom, you know how hard it is to find extra time for reading books. There are only eight chapters in Raising Boys to Men, and they are short and to the point. You can sit down and read it in an afternoon, like I did, or pick it up for a few minutes here and there when your circus is napping!
Included in this book is a chapter-by-chapter question/recap, which is great for a mom’s book club, and the added bonus of more recommended books for parents of boys, and parents in general.
This book was a shot in the arm for me. Though my boys are young men now, I am still in need of encouragement and wisdom. You never stop praying for and wanting God’s best for your sons! It doesn’t matter what stage of parenting boys you are in, Raising Boys to Men will bless you and encourage you.
