You might be wondering why I created my first Little House study guide for the seventh book in Laura Ingalls’ book series? Two reasons: the early book have had literally hundreds of study guides created for them, and Little Town on the Prairie has always been one of my favorites. Besides, most of the Little House units out there are created for little kids, and I really wanted to focus on the teen years.
Little Town on the Prairie is the perfect fit for teens, especially teen girls. It features Laura at 15 years old, attending school with Carrie, making friends, studying to become a teacher, homesteading with her family, and so much more. But it also shows us that Laura struggled with some of the same things modern teen girls face: selfishness, fashion concerns, girl drama, and insecurities.
I love the historic aspect of all of Laura’s books, and this one is no different. Not only does this book focus quite a bit on American history, it actually is American history! The chapter on the Fourth of July is quite patriotic and educational, and Laura’s school days show us just how educated those prairie kids were.

This study guide is an easy PDF download, so you can start using it right away. It is 55 pages of recaps, notebooking pages, thoughtful questions, Bible study, history tidbits, and more. All you need to complete the study is a copy of Little Town on the Prairie!
