Able and Mighty Men: The Biographies of the Men Who Signed the Declaration of Independence + Free Study Guide

America, Books, Downloads, homeschool

56 amazing men risked their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honors to defy the King of England with the treasonous document known as the Declaration of Independence. With this book and study guide combo you will be whisked back to 1776 to meet these brave men, and to understand every part of this famous document!

Able and Mighty Men signers of the Declaration of Independence

Able and Mighty Men: The Biographies of the Men Who Signed the Declaration of Independence is part of my Knowledge Keepers Bookstore collection of out-of-print history books. This one is amazing because the author met almost every single one of the signers of the Declaration. He published the original version in 1838, in a time when many Americans were alive who remembered the Revolution.

This book includes the biographies of George Washington and Patrick Henry, as well as the first and final drafts of the Declaration and the U.S. Constitution as it was in 1838. It is such a rich piece of history, and an excellent piece of homeschool curriuclum.

Declaration of Independence Study Guide

Along with this amazing book, you can download my free Declaration of Indepenence Study Guide. In this guide, I walk students through each part of the Declaration, explaining the history of certain parts, and the details behind the injustices of the King. You’ll see how Thomas Jefferson reached way back to medieval history, and how there were signs of the Bill of rights to come.

Understanding the men of the Revolution is so important today. They were impressive in many ways, not the least of which was their faith in God. This book and the free study guide will be a unique addition to any homeschool curriculum, and will also work as a standalone study for high schoolers.

Our culture has become saturated in all forms of rebellion against God, not the least of which is the LGBT movement. No matter how you raise your children, they will be exposed. Children’s toys, cookies, candy, cereal, clothing lines, and cartoons have all become mouthpieces for sexual perversion. You would literally have to live in a bubble to keep your children from it, especially in June. We settle in for a comfortable 1 1/2 to 2 hours of reading to begin our school day. (See my previous post.) Sometimes it’s at 9:00, sometimes it’s as late as 11:00. Snacks are allowed (see the iced coffees?) because food makes kids happy. And I let them do a variety of quiet activities while I read. On this day, they chose mazes and intricate coloring. Oklahoma! Summer learning. https://www.instagram.com/p/CsbPJAwLQNd/ I spend all day with my kids. But I’m not a super mom or gifted with infinite patience. I don’t have it all together. I usually don’t even have some of it together. Here’s our morning routine right now: When our society moved children away from the home and into the schools, they had to recreate much of home life in an artificial fashion. April 1, 1853:
