My 11-year-old son is using this study independently. He does one lesson per day, about three days a week. He had previously memorized this passage of scripture, so he is enjoying expanding the different verses on the Father and all the aspects of the prayer.
This is compatible with the following Bible translations: KJV, ESV, NKJV, NIV, NASB, NABRE. My son uses the New King James Bible for his study. The Bible study is shipped “binder-ready,’ which seems like a small thing, until you open the package and find out it’s truly ready to stick in a binder and start using! Busy-mom bonus!
The focus of the entire study is the Lord’s Prayer, and with it, a poetic version of the prayer. Students are walked through this poem line by line, while researching the different parts of the prayer through scripture. My son and I discussed how it’s so thorough, examining each concept; for instance, “Our Father” is first explored by searching the scriptures to see just what it means for God to be our Father, and how the Bible illustrates that.
As you can see from the sample page, the lessons are not hard. They consist primarily of scriptures to look up and then answer questions. My son loves this. He enjoys the “bible drill” type thing, so looking up scriptures quickly is like a game for him. He found it pretty easy to find the answers to the questions in each verse. Not too easy; he did have to think some of them through, but it wasn’t so hard that he got discouraged.
I sat with him on the first lesson, to be sure he was comfortable with this format. This is a different kind of Bible study than he is used to, but he liked it. Now he just sits down and does it on his own each school day. I like to hear him sitting at the kitchen table reading his answers aloud to himself.
This study book can be expanded to more of a “unit study,” if desired, thanks to the extra activities available online. Each lesson has something extra, such as hands-on activities, a video, or a thought-provoking discussion. It’s the perfect way to have a well-rounded curriculum, and to include the rest of the family!
The author, Susan Case Bonner, has a real desire to open the scriptures up for children in a deep way. The entire Kid Niche ministry is great, and there are studies for other ages, too!
The price is great: just $20 for the binder-ready booklet. Go check out some sample pages at the Kid Niche website, and follow them on these social media sites:
